My Favourites - Playlist Recap 9/18

Hello and welcome back to the site! If this is your first time here, then greetings! It's so nice to have you here! If you're interested in finding out more about the site then feel free to check out the previous blog post!

But, I'm sure you're all here to talk about the music so let's get started! As I'm sure you're all aware, this past week's show was all about my favourite songs, all sung by my favourite female vocalists.

When planning this show, I realized how little I know about the music industry. Better yet, I realized how stuck I am in my own little music bubble. I'm not saying that I never venture outside my comfort zone and don't allow myself to discover new artists, but often times I find myself listening to the same song over and over again (for example, Leadly's "Never Knew Love") until I find another song to put on repeat. I can already tell that doing this show is going to force me to listen to music I normally wouldn't (like country), which I'm kind-of glad about. It's sort of like a New Year's Resolution- to listen to more music -except, not. Is it too late to add to your New Year's Resolutions? I mean, it is October. Maybe I can add it to my mid-year's resolutions?

Another thing I noticed when planning this show is that I'm a total "Today's Hits" kind-of girl. I mean this in the sense that a lot of the music I chose to feature came from 2010 and onward. And by a lot I mean like 99%. The only song I know came pre-2010 is TLC's "No Scrubs", which in retrospect I should've added The Spice Girls, or the Pussycat Dolls or some other early 2000s, late 1990s girl group. This is another thing I want to work on- expanding my horizons and listening to music from before I was born.

But, enough about that. Like I mentioned earlier, this week was all about my favourites, which in all honesty should've just been an entire show of Taylor Swift. I mean, if you learn anything about me then it should be that I am a huge Taylor Swift fan. But, don't worry. That's a show for later on.

The "My Favourites" show started off with "God Is A Woman", one of the newest releases from singer Ariana Grande. From the moment I heard the song, I just knew it had to be on the show, and what better way to start the show off? I mean, it was a pretty tight race between "God Is A Woman" and Beyonce's "Run the World (Girls)". Other artists featured on the show were, of course, Taylor Swift and other big names like Paramore and Dua Lipa. The show also featured a lot of what I would consider "up and coming" artists- artists like King Princess, Jen Champion, Tessa Violet, Dodie Clark, Emma Blackery, The Japanese House, and so on. Despite only discovering some of these artists recently, they're some of my all time faves. We also featured the European band "The Studio Killers", who, like the band Gorillaz, is a virtual band composed of virtual characters, like lead singer Cherry. They're pretty inspirational to me, not just because I enjoy their music but because I just love the idea of a virtual band. Not to mention that the entire aesthetic of the band is just, amazing. I love it.

"My Favourites" also featured Charli XCX's "Boys" and Ciara's latest single "Level Up", a song all about empowerment. In the lead up to the songs release, Ciara challenged fans to show off their best dance moves and share three ways they want to "level up". But it wasn't just for fans. Several celebrities, like Chris Pratt and Serena Williams, even participated in the challenge, sharing it on social media.

Like I mentioned earlier, quite a few of the songs were from "up and coming" artists like Dodie Clark and Emma Blackery. These artists are actual pretty popular Youtubers, whose music careers were often kickstarted by sharing covers online. Through their popularity on Youtube, their music careers were able to kick off, with several of them going on European tours.

But that's all I have for now! Wanna listen to the playlist again? Then check it out right here on Spotfiy and let me know what you think!

I'll talk to you all again soon!

I hope you're having a good morning, afternoon, or evening wherever you are!
